President Trump says Iran is in ‘big trouble’ over protests and warns the US will ‘hit them very hard’ if violence escalates.
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said Iran was in “big trouble” amid major protests and again warned he could order military strikes.
“Iran’s in big trouble,” Trump said. “It looks to me that the people are taking over certain cities that nobody thought were really possible just a few weeks ago.”
Asked for his message to Iran’s leaders, Trump said, “You better not start shooting because we’ll start shooting too.”
He warned that US involvement would follow if Iranian authorities began killing protesters.
“If they start killing people like they have in the past, we will get involved,” Trump said.
He clarified that this would not mean “boots on the ground” but would involve “hitting them very, very hard where it hurts.”
