UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer supports Denmark’s stance, stating only Greenland and Denmark can decide its future after Trump’s acquisition comments.
LONDON: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he stands with Denmark’s leader following statements by US President Donald Trump about acquiring Greenland.
“Well, I stand with her, and she’s right about the future of Greenland,” Starmer told reporters on Monday.
He emphasised that “Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark are to decide the future of Greenland — and only Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.”
Starmer’s comments follow Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s Sunday rebuke, where she told the US to stop “threatening its historical ally.”
This was in response to Trump stating he “absolutely” needed Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory.
