Greenland’s dogsled federation says US envoy Jeff Landry’s invitation to its annual race was withdrawn, citing political inappropriateness
NUUK: Greenland’s dogsled federation has confirmed the new US special envoy to the Arctic island has been disinvited from its annual race.
The KNQK federation stated the invitation from a private tour operator was withdrawn, calling the initial offer “totally inappropriate”.
“This is reassuring,” the federation wrote on its Facebook page.
The incident follows political tensions, as Washington has repeatedly threatened to take over the autonomous Danish territory.
Last year, plans for US Vice President JD Vance’s wife to attend the race were also cancelled amid opposition.
Her visit was replaced with a trip to the US Pitiffuk military base with her husband and a delegation.
