MUDA fields Rashifa Aljunied for Puteri Wangsa seat

MuDA nominates Rashifa Aljunied for Puteri Wangsa in Johor polls, with Amira Aisya stepping aside for a parliamentary run.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) has named Puteri Wangsa service centre head Rashifa Aljunied as its candidate for the Puteri Wangsa seat in the Johor state election.

The announcement was made by MUDA president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, who was the incumbent for the seat.

“The decision to field Rashifa, 26, as a candidate was made after in-depth discussions with the top leadership and the party machinery,” she said at a press conference here today.

Amira Aisya said she is not defending the seat because she will be contesting a parliamentary seat in the 16th General Election.

It is learnt that MUDA will make another announcement on its Johor election candidates in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

In the 2022 Johor state election, Puteri Wangsa was the only seat won by MUDA.

Amira Aisya won with a majority of 7,114 votes in a six-cornered contest.

The Election Commission has set July 11 as polling day for the Johor polls, with June 27 as nomination day and July 7 for early voting.
