Malaysia’s National Sports Council confirms its 181-medal target for the ASEAN Para Games remains unaffected by Cambodia’s withdrawal from the competition
CAMBODIA’S withdrawal from the ASEAN Para Games Thailand 2025 has not affected the national contingent’s targets.
Malaysia is still aiming for 181 medals in the biennial Games, according to National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Jefri Ngadirin.
He said the assessment of the contingent’s targets was made after a structured process, with most sports having finalised their plans.
“So far, we have been informed by the Paralympic Council Malaysia (MPM) and the secretariat that our targets have not been affected by Cambodia’s withdrawal,” he said.
“The chef de mission has also announced that we aim to win 181 medals throughout our participation in the APG.”
He said this after Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol’s visit to Terminal 21 Korat to boost athlete morale.
On another matter, Jefri said early preparations towards the Malaysia 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games have begun comprehensively.
He said preparations for para athletes will officially begin in April, while able-bodied athletes will start their programmes on Feb 11.
Meanwhile, Mordi said his visit to Nakhon Ratchasima was to represent the ministry at the opening ceremony.
He also aimed to provide moral support to the national contingent.
