Former national junior player Lim Kenn will head BAM’s talent pipeline development, aiming to align state programmes with national standards for the 2032 and 2036 Olympics
KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has appointed former national junior player Lim Kenn as its new head of Talent Pipeline Development. His appointment is effective from March 1.
BAM described the move as a strategic initiative to bridge the quality gap between state and national programmes. The goal is to ensure a smoother transition for players progressing to the elite level.
In his new role, Kenn will monitor state Badminton Associations and oversee the overall talent pathway structure. His mandate is to ensure state programmes align with the national training framework.
His responsibilities include strengthening training structures and enhancing coaching methodologies. He will also focus on improving fitness monitoring and implementing a more systematic sports science approach.
The initiative involves sharing national expertise with state associations. This includes the latest training modules, match video analysis and modern tactical approaches.
Through long-term planning, clear targets for the 2032 and 2036 Olympic Games can be identified earlier. BAM stated this is to ensure continuity in the national team’s future performance.
BAM Performance Committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei believes this coordinating step is crucial. He said it ensures each state aligns with the technical and performance direction set nationally.
“BAM will conduct regular monitoring every two or three months by sending national coaches to the states,” said Chong Wei. He added this is to assess player development and provide guidance to state coaches.
“The state BAs play a very important role in producing players for the national squad. Strength at the grassroots level is the foundation of Malaysia’s success,” he said.
