KBS to consider Stadium Juara as badminton training ground

Youth and Sports Ministry to discuss BAM’s proposal for using Stadium Juara as an additional training facility for national shuttlers after Raya.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry will consider a proposal to turn Stadium Juara into an additional training ground for the national badminton squad.

Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the Badminton Association of Malaysia had raised the issue during a visit to his office two weeks ago.

He stated that using the Bukit Kiara stadium would save on transport and logistics costs for the athletes.

“We will meet with Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia after Hari Raya Aidilfitri to discuss the matter,” he said.

Dr Mohammed Taufiq added that a decision would be made after Raya that is best for the national athletes.

He was speaking after visiting the Akademi Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara today.

During his visit, he toured the facilities and spent time with the national players.

The minister also commented on the current performance level of the national badminton squad.

He said the squad’s performance was at a good and encouraging level.

However, he reminded players not to become complacent with their current achievements.

“I hope that all Malaysians can give their support and not just negative comments as this will have an adverse effect on athletes,” he added.
