Pearly-Thinaah end 19-year wait for Malaysia in All England semis

Malaysian women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah reach the All England semi-finals, becoming the first from their nation to do so since 2007.

KUALA LUMPUR: National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah have ended a 19-year wait for Malaysia by reaching the All England semi-finals.

The world number two pair secured their maiden semi-final spot at the prestigious tournament with a straight-sets victory over Indonesia’s Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Meilysa Trias Puspitasari at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.

They needed just 43 minutes to win the quarter-final clash 21-9, 21-18.

This achievement makes them the first Malaysian women’s pair to reach the semi-finals since Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei Hui did so in 2007.

Their next opponents will be South Korea’s Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee.

The Korean pair booked their semi-final place by defeating Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto 21-18, 21-7 in another quarter-final match.
