LOS ANGELES: Victor Wembanyama stepped up late to secure a 100-95 victory for the San Antonio Spurs over the Boston Celtics.
The French star, coming off the bench, scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half and hit a crucial go-ahead jumper with 1:33 remaining.
“My mindset was just, I have to close out the game,” Wembanyama said of his pivotal shots.
He added that the win demonstrated the Spurs’ character, noting they stayed competitive despite Boston’s strong play.
De’Aaron Fox also scored 21 points for San Antonio, while Keldon Johnson contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Derrick White led the Celtics with 29 points and nine rebounds, supported by Jaylen Brown’s 27 points.
In other NBA action, the Los Angeles Clippers rallied from a 19-point deficit to beat the Detroit Pistons 98-92.
Kawhi Leonard scored 26 points and John Collins added 25 for the Clippers, who dominated the fourth quarter 30-16.
The Cleveland Cavaliers avenged a recent loss by defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 146-134.
Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 28 points and eight assists, with strong support from Evan Mobley and Jaylon Tyson.
