Nepal stages dramatic recovery to post 133-8 against West Indies

Nepal recovered from 46-5 to post 133-8 against West Indies in a crucial T20 World Cup group match, keeping their tournament hopes alive.

MUMBAI: Nepal staged a remarkable recovery from a precarious position to post 133 for eight against the West Indies in their T20 World Cup group match. The team found itself in deep trouble at 46 for five in the 11th over after being asked to bat first.

West Indies fast bowler Matthew Forde set the tone with a superb spell, conceding just 10 runs from his four overs. He also removed Nepal’s captain, Rohit Paudel, for just five runs to heap early pressure on the batting side.

Nepal struggled to 22 for three at the end of the six-over powerplay and soon slipped further to 23 for four. Jason Holder was also among the wickets, finishing with impressive figures of four for 27 from his four overs.

Dipendra Singh Airee played a crucial innings of 58 to anchor the fightback. He shared a vital seventh-wicket partnership of 54 runs with Sompal Kami, who remained unbeaten on 26 at the innings’ close.

A victory will secure the West Indies’ qualification for the Super Eights stage from Group C. Conversely, a defeat would see Nepal eliminated from the tournament.
