Arsenal extend Premier League lead with goalless draw at Forest

Arsenal move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, despite Manchester City’s earlier defeat

ARSENAL extended their lead at the Premier League summit to seven points despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners failed to capitalise on Manchester City’s earlier 2-0 defeat at Manchester United, which had presented a chance for a nine-point advantage.

Mikel Arteta’s side produced a lacklustre first-half display at the City Ground, failing to register a shot on target.

The visitors only threatened after introducing attacking substitutes Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Jesus in the second period.

Saka came closest to breaking the deadlock with a looping header that was brilliantly saved by Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Merino then missed a clear chance, failing to direct Declan Rice’s inviting free-kick on target.

The point edges Forest five points clear of the relegation zone, providing a positive response after their FA Cup exit last weekend.

Arsenal, however, have now drawn back-to-back league games 0-0 against Liverpool and Forest.

They still rely on a solid defence, registering an 11th clean sheet in 22 league games this season.

Third-placed Aston Villa can reduce the gap at the top to four points with a win over Everton on Sunday.

Manchester City’s winless Premier League run has now stretched to four games since the turn of the year.
