LEEDS: Matheus Cunha’s second-half equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw for Manchester United against rivals Leeds United at Elland Road.
The result leaves Rubem Amorim’s side in fifth place, missing a chance to break into the Premier League’s top four.
Leeds took the lead after 62 minutes when Brenden Aaronson capitalised on a defensive error from teenager Ayden Heaven.
The American forward finished clinically past United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United responded just three minutes later through substitute Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch forward played a perfectly weighted pass for Cunha, who poked home from 12 yards for his third goal in five games.
Leeds had not beaten United at Elland Road since 2002 and extended their winless run in the fixture to eight matches.
Daniel Farke’s team are now unbeaten in seven league games and moved eight points clear of the relegation zone.
United dominated the first half but were wasteful in front of goal.
Benjamin Sesko hesitated when clean through, allowing Pascal Struijk to block, while Diogo Dalot fired a good chance over the bar.
Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin saw a glancing header cannon off the far post in the hosts’ best first-half opportunity.
Cunha almost won it for United late on, but his curling effort clipped the outside of the post.
The draw means United have won just one of their last five Premier League matches.
