Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi calls for trust and space for Datuk Ong Kim Swee to achieve National Football Development Programme targets.
KUALA LUMPUR: The acting president of the Football Association of Malaysia has called for full support for the new technical director of the National Football Development Programme.
Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said Datuk Ong Kim Swee (pic) must be given the space and authority to achieve the programme’s targets.
This includes evaluating the existing coaching line-up and development modules.
“So we cannot restrict him (Kim Swee). If he is tied to the old setup, it may disrupt and limit him from doing better,” Mohd Yusoff said.
He stressed the importance of Kim Swee working with trusted individuals in a conducive environment.
Kim Swee was announced as the new NFDP technical director last Monday, replacing Oscar Francisco Gonzalez.
The 55-year-old coach has extensive experience, having previously served as FAM technical director and head coach of the national team.
His appointment has reportedly caused concern among some coaches over job security.
Media reports stated Kim Swee was prepared to evaluate existing staff for the programme’s sustainability.
He has acknowledged dissatisfaction from some parties regarding the decision.
