Arsenal add Gabriel Jesus to their Champions League squad for the Club Brugge clash, replacing the injured Max Dowman
LONDON: Arsenal have added striker Gabriel Jesus to their UEFA Champions League squad.
The Brazilian returns after a long-term knee injury suffered in January.
Jesus has been back in training and was an unused substitute in recent matches against Chelsea and Brentford.
His inclusion comes after teenage winger Max Dowman sustained an ankle injury in an under-21 match.
“Gabriel Jesus has replaced Max Dowman on our UEFA A list with immediate effect,” a club statement confirmed.
“Therefore, Gabby is eligible to play in our match against Club Brugge in Belgium on Wednesday night.”
The 28-year-old’s return provides a timely boost for manager Mikel Arteta.
Injuries to forwards Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz had forced midfielder Mikel Merino to play as a central striker.
Arsenal lead the Premier League despite a recent loss to Aston Villa.
They also top their Champions League group after five consecutive wins in the competition.
Dowman, removed from the squad, is now ineligible for Arsenal’s UEFA matches until February 6. – AFP
