JDT coach praises team’s dominant display despite Shanghai Port draw

JDT head coach Xisco Munoz lauds his team’s high-intensity performance in a 0-0 AFC Champions League draw with Shanghai Port

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz expressed pride in his team’s performance despite a 0-0 draw with Shanghai Port in the AFC Champions League Elite.

Munoz said the Southern Tigers delivered a complete and high-intensity display from start to finish.

“Thanks to my players,“ he said at the post-match press conference.

He added they controlled the game, played very well and created many chances throughout the match at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

Munoz stated his only thought was to win but emphasised the importance of keeping their momentum going.

When asked if luck was a factor, the coach said he never believed in it.

He described the team’s execution of their high-press tactical approach as incredible.

“We recovered many balls in the opposition half,“ Munoz explained.

He noted that Shanghai Port only threatened twice in the first half through fast transitions.

Meanwhile, Shanghai Port coach Kevin Muscat said the point gained was particularly meaningful.

Muscat revealed his team had been grappling with multiple injury and health issues before the clash.

“Before kick-off, the squad was far from ideal,“ he stated.

He praised his players for stepping up and showcasing a strong fighting spirit.

Muscat also singled out goalkeeper Chen Wei, who was named Man of the Match.

“Chen Wei was outstanding,“ the Shanghai Port coach said.

He expressed happiness with how his team closed spaces and remained focused defensively.

Chen Wei attributed his impressive performance to the team’s intensive daily training sessions.

“I’m grateful to the coach,“ the goalkeeper said.

He added that their high-intensity training helps the team perform at its best. – Bernama
