Harrison Reed’s stunning stoppage-time strike earns Fulham a dramatic 2-2 draw against Liverpool, denting the Reds’ Premier League top-four hopes
LIVRPOOL’S push for a Premier League top-four finish suffered a blow after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Harrison Reed scored a stunning stoppage-time equaliser just moments after Cody Gakpo had netted a stoppage-time goal that seemed to have won the game for the Reds.
Reed’s superb long-range strike hauled Fulham level to leave fourth-placed Liverpool frustrated.
Arne Slot’s side had trailed to Harry Wilson’s first-half goal, which was awarded after VAR overturned an initial offside decision against the former Liverpool player.
Florian Wirtz’s 57th-minute equaliser for Liverpool was also contentious, with VAR ruling he was onside by the narrowest of margins after the flag had initially gone up.
The draw leaves Liverpool unbeaten in nine games across all competitions ahead of a crucial trip to league leaders Arsenal on Thursday.
It was, however, another unconvincing display following their New Year’s Day stalemate against Leeds.
Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes due to a medical emergency in the crowd at Craven Cottage.
Liverpool looked out of sync from the start, with Gakpo wasting two early chances before Wilson punished them in the 17th minute.
Alexis Mac Allister hit the bar with a header early in the second half before Wirtz’s controversial leveller.
Fulham almost retook the lead when Wilson chipped onto the bar and Virgil van Dijk cleared a follow-up off the line.
Gakpo then thought he had won it with a close-range finish in the fourth minute of added time, only for Reed to thunder home a spectacular equaliser from 30 yards.
