Liverpool suffer sixth defeat in seven league games as Nottingham Forest secure a historic 3-0 win at Anfield, leaving the champions 11th
NOTTINGHAM Forest inflicted a devastating 3-0 defeat on Liverpool at Anfield, deepening the champions’ Premier League crisis.
The loss marks Liverpool’s sixth defeat in their last seven league matches, leaving them 11th in the table and eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
Brazilian defender Murillo gave the visitors a 33rd-minute lead from a corner that deflected off Virgil van Dijk.
Nicolo Savona doubled Forest’s advantage just a minute into the second half after a cut-back from Neco Williams.
Morgan Gibbs-White sealed a historic win 12 minutes from time, tapping in after Alisson saved Omari Hutchinson’s shot.
This result represents Forest’s biggest ever win at Anfield and Liverpool’s heaviest home defeat since 2021.
“Everyone is disappointed, like they should be, because losing at home to Nottingham Forest is, in my eyes, very bad,” Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk told Premier League Productions.
“Those goals we conceded are far too easy and we all have to look in the mirror. I’m not a quitter and we will keep going.”
The victory lifted Forest out of the relegation zone and marked their third win in six matches under new manager Sean Dyche.
“We thoroughly deserved the win and the dressing room is quite lively,” Forest captain Ryan Yates told Sky Sports.
“He’s been huge, him and his staff. They came in, embraced everything about the club. Brought that togetherness with the team and the fans, that’s massive at Forest.”
Liverpool’s £450 million summer spending spree has faced criticism for destabilising the squad.
Manager Arne Slot’s decision to start British record signing Alexander Isak backfired, with the Swede looking well short of match fitness.
Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels made crucial saves from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah to preserve the clean sheet.
