RM7.05 million allocated for Sarawak stadium upgrade

Sarawak allocates RM7.05 million to upgrade the state stadium, enhancing facilities to meet modern safety and sports standards.

KUCHING: The Sarawak State Government has allocated RM7.05 million for the upgrading of the Sarawak State Stadium here.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) had been appointed as the implementing agency for the project.

He said the stadium, which first opened in August 1983, was still relevant and continued to be used until now.

“The scope of the upgrade work involves comprehensive improvements to ensure that the stadium facilities are safe, modern and meet current standards.

“Among the scope of the project are the upgrading of the spectator seats, the installation of a new LED lighting system, the installation of LED screens, the upgrading of the ticket counter, as well as the repair work of the changing rooms, toilets and surau,” he said during the Question Time session at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting today.

He said this when replying a question by Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman (GPS-Tupong) on whether the state government intends to upgrade the Sarawak State Stadium.

Rentap said the State Stadium facilities are more modern and meet current standards such as the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will provide a more conducive environment for the organisation of football competitions at various levels.

“This includes the Sarawak Premier League which is an important platform for the development of local players and community clubs before moving on to higher levels,” he added.
