Tottenham boss Tudor defiant after derby defeat

Spurs manager Igor Tudor insists his side can avoid relegation despite a heavy loss to Arsenal, urging his players to stay humble and work hard.

IGOR Tudor insists there is still enough time for his Tottenham Hotspur side to avoid relegation from the Premier League despite a heavy 4-1 home defeat to arch-rivals Arsenal.

The loss left Spurs 16th in the table and just four points above the bottom three, extending a woeful run of just two league wins in their last 17 games.

Tudor, who was brought in earlier this month to replace the sacked Thomas Frank, said he saw positive signs in his first game in charge despite the lopsided derby defeat.

“I saw the passion, I saw the will, so I was not angry, because they wanted to do (it), but then they were not able to do in this moment the things” they need to do, the new manager explained.

The 47-year-old Croatian, who has previously engineered mid-season recoveries at Italian clubs Juventus and Lazio, stressed that his immediate focus is on solving the team’s problems.

“I speak from day one at the club, I come here to resolve the problems,” Tudor stated.

He urged his squad to remain grounded as they fight to preserve Tottenham’s top-flight status, a position they have held since the 1977/78 season.

“Stay humble, that is the key for each of us and try to become what I said before — a team, a squad, a hard-working team,” Tudor added.

“That is the only goal we have now in this moment.”
