Vietnam demolish Malaysia 7-0 in SEA Games women’s football opener

Vietnam thrashed Malaysia’s Malayan Tigress 7-0 in their SEA Games 2025 Group B opener, with a dominant first-half performance sealing the win.

THE national women’s football team, known as the Malayan Tigress, went down with a whimper after being hammered 7-0 by Vietnam in their opening Group B match at the SEA Games Thailand 2025 at the TNSU Stadium in Chonburi on Friday (December 5) night.

Vietnam, dominant from start to finish, went 4-0 up in the first half with goals from Pham Hai Yen (fourth, 26th minutes), Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy (23rd minute) and Tran Thi Hai Linh (32nd minute).

It was then left to Thai Thi Thao to rip the Tigress apart with a second-half hat-trick in the 49th, 59th and 78th minutes.

Malaysia, who arrived in Chonburi on Wednesday (Dec 3), will face Myanmar on Dec 8 before taking on the Philippines on Dec 11 at the same venue.

Only the group winners and runners-up from Groups A and B will advance to the semi-finals on Dec 14, with the final and third-placing match scheduled for Dec 17.
