Gianluigi Donnarumma set for Manchester City move says Gattuso

ITALY coach Gennaro Gattuso has confirmed that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will complete a transfer to Manchester City on deadline day.

Gattuso stated that the Italian international must finalise arrangements before undergoing a medical examination and signing his contract with the Premier League champions.

The announcement follows reports of a €35 million agreement between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for the 26-year-old shot-stopper.

Donnarumma became surplus to requirements at PSG following their acquisition of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille during the close season.

PSG manager Luis Enrique has explicitly designated the 23-year-old Chevalier as his first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign.

The Italian played a pivotal role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers.

Manchester City initially appeared reluctant to sign Donnarumma without moving on their current number one Ederson, but negotiations progressed unexpectedly.

City recruited Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford during the summer transfer window, handing him starts in all three Premier League matches so far.

Trafford’s performances have failed to convince Pep Guardiola, particularly after Sunday’s disappointing 2-1 defeat against Brighton.

This development represents a significant upgrade to Manchester City’s goalkeeping options as they seek to maintain their domestic and European dominance. – AFP
