Izzat Shameer and women’s pairs storm into lawn bowls finals

Malaysia’s Izzat Shameer and women’s pairs team reach lawn bowls finals at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

GLASGOW: Malaysia will have two shots at lawn bowls gold at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games after Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple (pic) and the women’s pairs team stormed into their respective finals at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) here today.

Izzat Shameer survived a nerve-racking men’s singles semi-final against Australia’s Aaron Wilson, holding his composure after the match ended 1-1 before clinching the tiebreak 1-0 to book his place in the gold-medal showdown.

Malaysia’s celebrations continued in the women’s pair as Aleena Ahmad Nawawi-Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman also came through a dramatic contest to reach the final.

The national duo’s match against Northern Ireland’s Chloe Wilson-Shauna O’Neill finished 1-1 before the Malaysians prevailed 1-0 in the tiebreak.

Izzat Shameer will face England’s Sam Tolchard in the men’s singles final tomorrow morning, while Aleena and Syafiqa will battle England’s Amy Pharaoh and Sian Honnor for the women’s pairs crown.

The double success keeps Malaysia firmly in the hunt for two lawn bowls gold medals and sets the stage for a potentially memorable morning on the greens.
