National gymnast Rachel Yeoh falls just 0.133 points short of bronze at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the women’s uneven bars.
GLASGOW: National artistic gymnast Rachel Yeoh fell just 0.133 points short of winning the bronze medal in the women’s uneven bars event at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Rachel produced a clean routine to score 13.533 points at the Glasgow International Arena, but had to settle for fourth place. The bronze went to Wales’ Emily Roper (13.666 points), as Australia’s Kate McDonald won gold (14.333 points) and Canada’s Elsabeth Black took silver (13.900 points).
Rachel, who finished third in the qualifying round with 13.800 points, struggled to hide her disappointment.
“For me, it’s a pity as I fell just short, by only 0.133. And just like that, the (bronze) medal slipped away, but I gave it my best today. Just not my day, I guess,” she told Bernama.
Asked what was going through her mind during the routine, the 27-year-old said she was focused only on giving everything for Malaysia and for herself.
“For me, at that time, I was just thinking of completing my routine. For Malaysia, and for myself. I was all prepared for it and just went for it. But, it’s sad that it didn’t work out,” she said.
The disappointment has fuelled her determination to increase the difficulty level of her routine ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in September.
“When I get home, no matter what, I want to increase my difficulty level. A 6.3 difficulty score is something I absolutely have to achieve. For the Asiad, my next outing, I have to redeem myself,” she said.
Today’s result meant Rachel missed the opportunity to become the first Malaysian woman to win an artistic gymnastics medal at the Commonwealth Games. The last Malaysian medal in artistic gymnastics at the Games was a silver by Ng Shu Wai in the men’s floor exercise at the 2006 Melbourne Games. Shu Wai, now the national coach, also won a silver in the same event at the 2002 Games in Manchester.
