Malaysian divers clinch first SEA Games gold in women’s synchronised platform

Nur Eilisha Rania and Nurul Farisya Alia won Malaysia’s first diving gold at the 2025 SEA Games with a score of 248.40 points in the women’s synchronised platform.

MALAYSIA secured its first diving gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games through the women’s synchronised platform pair of Nur Eilisha Rania Muhammad Abrar Raj and Nurul Farisya Alia Affendi.

The duo delivered a commanding performance at the Assumption University Aquatic Centre, Suvarnabhumi Campus in Samut Prakan today.

They finished with a total score of 248.40 points to claim the top spot on the podium.

Singapore’s Ainslee Jia Ern Kwang and Ryenne Cham took the silver medal with 237.00 points.

The bronze medal went to Indonesia’s Gladies Lariesa Garina and Linar Betiliana, who scored 211.74 points.

Nur Eilisha acknowledged the pressure after Malaysia failed to win gold in earlier diving events.

She credited coach and former national diver Ooi Tze Liang for managing their nerves.

“It was quite stressful before competition but we are lucky to have a very positive coach,” she said.

“Tze Liang managed our nervousness, raised our spirits and told us not to be pressured.”

The 20-year-old expressed pride in winning her first SEA Games medal after a fourth-place finish in 2023.

Sixteen-year-old Nurul Farisya was delighted to cap her SEA Games debut with a gold.

She stated that their hard work and training had finally paid off.

Malaysia’s only previous diving medal was a bronze from Yong Rui Jie in the men’s one-metre springboard.

The nation’s long dominance in the men’s 3m springboard event ended without a podium finish yesterday.
