NATIONAL weightlifter Mohamad Aniq Kasdan narrowly missed a podium finish at the 2025 SEA Games today.
Competing in the men’s 60kg event at Chonburi Sports School, the Road to Gold programme athlete placed fourth with a combined total of 285kg.
Aniq posted lifts of 125kg in the snatch and 160kg in the clean and jerk.
The gold medal was won by Thailand’s Theerapong Silachai with a dominant total of 304kg.
Indonesia’s Ricko Saputra took silver with 295kg, while Vietnam’s Doung K claimed bronze with 289kg.
The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation is aiming to end a 20-year gold medal drought at the regional games.
The nation’s last weightlifting gold was won by Che Mod Azrol Che Mat in the 105kg category in 2005.
The weightlifting competition in Chonburi continues and will conclude next Wednesday. – Bernama
