Seven Malaysian shuttlers storm into SEA Games badminton semi-finals

Malaysian badminton stars, including world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, advance to the SEA Games 2025 semi-finals.

SEVEN Malaysian badminton representatives powered into the semi-finals of the SEA Games Thailand 2025 today.

World champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik marched through with a 21-16, 21-16 quarter-final win over Thailand’s Supak Jumkoh and Kittinupong Kedren.

The top seeds will next face Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana.

National duo Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun also booked their last-four berth, defeating Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 21-16, 21-19.

In women’s doubles, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah cruised into the semi-finals by outclassing Thai favourites Benyapa Aimsaard and Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-11, 21-14.

The world number two pair will face Indonesia’s Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum.

However, second seeds Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing suffered a shock defeat to unseeded Indonesians Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Meilysa Trias Puspitasari.

In mixed doubles, world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei needed just 34 minutes to dispatch Singapore’s Hee Yong Kai Terry and Jin Yu Jia 21-12, 21-14.

Their compatriots Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin fell to Thai second seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran.

Both Malaysian men’s singles players, Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh, advanced to the semi-finals with straight-set victories.

Wong Ling Ching kept Malaysia’s hopes in women’s singles alive with a win over Indonesia’s Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya.

She will meet Thailand’s former world champion Ratchanok Intanon in the semi-finals.

National shuttler K. Letshanaa suffered her fifth straight defeat to top seed Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia.
