Siti Zalina becomes first Malaysian in World Bowls Hall of Fame

Former national lawn bowler Siti Zalina Ahmad is the first Malaysian and Asian inducted into the World Bowls Hall of Fame

FORMER NATIONAL LAWN BOWLER SITI ZALINA AHMAD has become the first Malaysian and Asian inducted into the World Bowls Hall of Fame.

She expressed deep honour that her over two decades of contributions were acknowledged by World Bowls, the sport’s international governing body.

“I found out when many people sent congratulatory messages when World Bowls made the announcement on social media,” she said.

Siti Zalina initially checked the website in disbelief after seeing the social media posts.

She received official confirmation via email several days after the initial announcement.

The Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, presented her award at the Hall of Fame gala dinner.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh also attended the ceremony.

Siti Zalina’s achievements include consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medals in 2002 and 2006.

She also won a bronze medal at the 2008 World Championships.

The 46-year-old police officer remains active playing for the Royal Malaysia Police team.

She currently trains several teams and works with NGOs helping the needy.

World Bowls inducted over 20 lawn bowl legends alongside Siti Zalina.

Other inductees included Ryan Bester from Canada and Darren Burnett from Scotland.

Lynsey Clarke from Australia and Jo Edwards from New Zealand were also honoured.

Robert Weale from Wales joined this year’s Hall of Fame class. – Bernama
