Sabalenka powers into third consecutive Brisbane International final

Aryna Sabalenka defeats Karolina Muchova to reach her third straight Brisbane final, calling it ideal preparation for the Australian Open.

ARYNA Sabalenka defeated Karolina Muchova in straight sets to reach her third consecutive Brisbane International final.

The world number one triumphed 6-3, 6-4 in an 89-minute semi-final on Saturday.

Sabalenka broke the tricky Czech player’s serve once in each set to secure the victory.

“I’m happy that today I was focused from the beginning and I was able to show such great tennis and put her under so much pressure and get the win in straight sets,” Sabalenka said.

The Belarusian has not dropped a set during her run at the tournament.

She stated that her level is improving with each match, which is ideal preparation for the Australian Open.

The season’s first Grand Slam begins in Melbourne on January 18.

“I definitely feel that compared to the first match here, I’m playing better and better,” she added.

Sabalenka is aiming to win a third Australian Open title in four years.

She will face either fourth seed Jessica Pegula or Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in Sunday’s final. – AFP
