vivo reveals future of smartphones at Boao Forum with “Imaging + AI” strategy

vivo unveils its Imaging + AI strategy at Boao Forum 2026, bringing global innovation to Malaysians through the newly launched vivo V70 smartphone.

vivo reinforced its global technology ambitions at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2026, unveiling its forward-looking “Imaging + AI” strategy while connecting these innovations to Malaysian consumers through the recently launched vivo V70.

Held in Boao, Hainan Province, the conference began on March 24 and saw vivo showcase its Blue Technology Matrix, highlighting advancements in 6G, Mixed Reality (MR), imaging, and intelligent software. The company’s continued presence as a BFA Board member and strategic partner for the fifth consecutive year underscores its growing influence on the global technology stage.

For vivo Malaysia, the timing is significant. The unveiling of these global innovations comes just weeks after the launch of the vivo V70 on March 5, bringing flagship-inspired imaging and intelligent capabilities to local users.

Hu Baishan, President and Chief Operating Officer at vivo and President of vivo Central Research Institute, delivers a keynote speech.

At the forum’s ‘Release Moment’ session, vivo President and COO Hu Baishan delivered a keynote titled “Imaging technology enables the connection of all things: A Visual Dialogue with Physical Reality”. He outlined vivo’s vision of building a perception-driven system centred on imaging — one that will reshape how technology interacts with the real world.

Hu emphasised that smartphones will remain the primary gateway for human-computer interaction over the next decade, evolving beyond communication tools into intelligent sensory hubs. As artificial intelligence advances, it will shift from digital “omniscience” to physical “omnipotence”, with imaging acting as the critical interface — effectively becoming the “eyes” of AI.

From Global Vision to Local Experience

This vision is embodied in the vivo V70, designed to deliver advanced imaging and intelligent software in a single, accessible device for Malaysian consumers.

The V70 integrates seven flagship-level capabilities, including a 50MP ZEISS Super Telephoto Camera powered by the Sony IMX882 sensor with up to 20x zoom.

It also features intelligent photography modes such as Stage Mode and Magic Weather, alongside 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanning 2.0 and OriginOS 6, supported by LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage.

Together, these innovations reflect vivo’s belief that imaging and AI must work seamlessly to enhance everyday user experiences.

Shaping the Future: From Smartphones to ‘Agent Phones’

Looking ahead, vivo is positioning imaging as a cornerstone of next-generation computing. The company envisions a transition from traditional smartphones to “Agent phones” — intelligent digital companions capable of perception, cognition, and action.

As part of this evolution, vivo is expanding its ecosystem across multiple scenarios, developing devices that can better understand and respond to user needs in real-world contexts.

Imaging technology will serve as a foundational capability across three key product categories: smartphones, headsets, and robotics. This modular approach aims to extend the benefits of “Imaging + AI” beyond mobile devices into broader aspects of daily life.

Global Recognition and Technological Leadership

At the forum, Hu also presented the vivo X300 Ultra to Zhang Jun, Secretary-General of the BFA, as the official smartphone of the event. The flagship device highlights vivo’s advancements in mobile imaging and showcases the strength of China’s intelligent manufacturing capabilities.

vivo is further contributing to discussions at the forum through participation in two sub-forums. Vice President of Technology Zhang Fei will explore how AI drives industrial transformation, while Shao Hao, Head of the Robot Lab, will share insights into humanoid robotics development and future directions.

Driving Innovation for All

With its “Imaging + AI” strategy, vivo continues to push the boundaries of innovation while maintaining a strong focus on user-centric design. The company aims to collaborate with global partners to ensure that technological advancements are accessible and beneficial to all — including consumers in Malaysia.
