A FIRST look at Dracula, the new series distributed by Netflix and BBC One, has been unveiled. Danish actor Claes Bang, discovered in Ruben Östlund’s The Square, which won the 2017 Palme d’Or at Cannes, plays the famous vampire in this three-part series.

BBC One published the first images of Claes Bang as Count Dracula and also released the names of the rest of the cast on July 3.

Lyndsey Marshal (The League of Gentlemen), Chanel Cresswell (This is England), Matthew Beard (An Education), Lydia West (Years & Years), Paul Brennen (Happy Valley), Sarah Niles (Catastrophe), Sofia Oxenham (Poldark), John McCrea (God’s Own Country), Phil Dunster (Humans) and Millicent Wong will appear alongside Bang in this reinvention of Bram Stoker’s iconic novel published in 1897.

John Heffernan, Joanna Scanlan, Dolly Wells, Sacha Dhawan, Jonathan Aris, Morfydd Clark, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett are also participating in the production.

This new series is written by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, who previously created a remake of Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock) for the BBC. The story begins in Transylvania in 1897, as Dracula plans to enter Victorian London.

Filming of Dracula’s three episodes is currently underway. It’s being directed by Jonny Campbell (Westworld), Damon Thomas (Killing Eve), and Paul McGuigan (Sherlock). It is not yet known when the series will air.-AFP
