AS mental health awareness is being shared a lot more these days amongst Malaysians, it has helped many understand its importance and impact in society.

However, some have used mental health as a way to not fulfill their responsibilities, thereby affecting others around them.

For this particular student, it seems to her that her housemate keeps on using the excuse of having depression to “avoid” cleaning her room.

In a video shared by @bckupacc99 on X, many of the roommate’s things were seen strewn all over the place – such as her clothes, bags, bowls and containers and many more.

Initially posted by Atierrah (@Tyrah0101) on TikTok, she had called out her roommate for leaving her side of the hostel room in such filthy conditions to the point of affecting her physical health.

Atierrah also pointed out that she suffers from depression as well and understands that there are times when someone is down with said mental illness, their environment becomes messy as a result

“How come her side is always messy all year round? But she can go out and do other activities without any issue, looking healthier than me,” she said in her post.

Fed up with her roommate’s filthy habits, Atierrah decided to report to the hostel warden. Fortunately, her plea to move to another room was granted.

Atierrah was also told that her roommate was not meant to get a room due to certain troubles from previous semesters.

Not to mention, Atierrah’s complaints had reached the roommate’s ears a few days before her report and she actually began to clean her side of the room.

Netizens were divided on the topic as some were of the opinion that depression does manifest itself neglecting self-care especially, when it comes to cleaning after oneself. However, others agreed that using depression as an reason for uncleanliness and laziness is inexcusable.
