Nur Liyana’s tight budget goes viral on Twitter

AN undergraduate is surviving on RM5 a day after her father’s death.

Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Under graduate Nur Liyana Sukhaimi says her family of six get by with her mother’s montly income of RM1,300.

Despite her tight budget, she would not skip breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day.

“I would wake up early and have breakfast at the faculty’s cafeteria,“ she was quoted by a portal as saying.

“I always eat fried rice, as no matter how much you take the cost is still RM1.50. I split the meal into two, half for breakfast and half for lunch.”

Nur Liyana became thrifty after the death of her father while she was in Form 1.

“I learned to be independent, save money, control my expenses and I worked during school holidays,“ she said. “My mother’s salary is not enough. I try my best not to ask her for money.”

Nur Liyana also gives her siblings pocket money she earns from her printing business at her hostel.
