Immigration authorities detained 77 foreigners for offences like overstaying in Seremban and Nilai raids, with 55 arrested at a single soap factory
SEREMBAN: Immigration enforcement operations in Seremban and Nilai have resulted in the detention of 77 illegal immigrants.
Negeri Sembilan Immigration director Kennith Tan Ai Kiang said the individuals were arrested during raids at 13 locations following complaints and week-long intelligence gathering.
A total of 395 foreign nationals were inspected during the operations, which ran from 9 am Tuesday until 1 am Wednesday.
“From the inspections, 77 illegal immigrants, comprising 71 men and six women aged between 19 and 47, were arrested for various immigration offences,” Tan said in a statement.
He confirmed that 55 of the detainees were arrested during a single raid at a soap factory in Nilai.
The detainees comprise four Indonesians, 10 Pakistanis, 26 Bangladeshis, 26 Indians, six Thais and five Myanmar nationals.
Offences included failure to possess valid passes or travel documents and overstaying.
The arrests were made under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
All detainees have been placed at the Lenggeng Immigration Depot for investigation.
Tan warned that stern action will also be taken against employers or individuals found harbouring illegal immigrants.
“Besides action against the foreign nationals, stern action, including prosecution in court, will also be taken against any employers or individuals found to be employing or harbouring illegal immigrants in accordance with the law,” he said.
