RM12 million allocated for urban poverty eradication programme in 2026

The Urban Community Economic Empowerment Programme gets RM12 million for 2026, aiming to help 1,100 participants achieve financial independence.

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government has allocated RM12 million for the Urban Community Economic Empowerment Programme for 2026.

The programme is expected to benefit approximately 1,100 participants nationwide.

It offers structured guidance through appointed non-governmental organisations across 15 entrepreneurial fields.

Training focuses on high-potential areas aligned with current market demand and economic opportunities.

KPKT continues its mandate to implement PEKB throughout the 13th Malaysia Plan.

The programme is part of the government’s commitment to eradicating urban poverty among those verified in the eKasih system.

It aims to build capabilities through entrepreneurship and targeted skills training.

This enables participants to generate sustainable income and improve their quality of life.

A key goal is reducing reliance on government assistance over time.

KPKT secretary-general Datuk Dr M Noor Azman Taib highlighted the programme’s objective during an approval letter handover.

“The programme provided participants with opportunities to work their way out of poverty and eventually become independent,” he said.

Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, the programme directly benefited 5,424 B40 participants.

A total allocation of RM55 million was channelled in phases during that period.

The implementation of PEKB 2026 reflects the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to empowerment.

It aims to assist target groups in a comprehensive, focused and high-impact manner.

The programme is positioned as a key catalyst for sustainable urban poverty eradication.
