Kelantan police arrest two brothers and seize homemade firearms used for illegal moneylending debt collection, with both suspects testing positive for methamphetamine.
KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police have arrested two brothers and seized homemade firearms believed to be used for illegal moneylending debt collection.
The raid was conducted at a house near Kampung Seneng, Jelawat in Bachok yesterday based on intelligence information.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said officers from the Criminal Investigation Department arrested the siblings, aged 34 and 37.
A search uncovered a homemade shotgun barrel, two homemade pistols, and two imitation pistols.
Police also seized two magazines, a pistol holster, 27 calibre powder ramsets, a motorcycle and three mobile phones.
Mohd Yusoff said initial investigations found the suspects worked as debt collectors for several illegal moneylending syndicates.
The metalworkers used firearms and imitation pistols to threaten debtors, mainly in the Bachok district.
The suspects were paid by illegal moneylenders who hired them for these activities.
Both suspects have been remanded for four days to assist investigations under the Arms Act 1960 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Urine tests showed both suspects were positive for methamphetamine,” said Mohd Yusoff.
Checks also revealed the suspects had previous records involving criminal and drug-related cases.
In a separate development, police are tracking a woman believed to be the mastermind behind a RM1.82 million cannabis flower syndicate.
Mohd Yusoff said the woman is believed to be in Thailand, and police have sought cooperation from their counterparts there.
Police are tracking a woman known as ‘Luna’, believed to be in her 30s, suspected of leading a drug trafficking syndicate.
This follows the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of cannabis flowers worth RM1.82 million in Kuala Krai last week.
