National weightlifter Mohamad Aniq Kasdan is embracing the pressure as he bids to retain his Commonwealth Games gold medal in Glasgow.
NATIONAL weightlifter Mohamad Aniq Kasdan plans to use any pressure to help him do his best as he defends his gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games here tomorrow.
Mohamad Aniq, who will compete in the men’s 60 kilogramme (kg) category, said the psychological aspect and self confidence were important things to focus on to achieve any set target.
“The pressure will be there. Without pressure, it’s not good for us. A bit of pressure is needed so that we can feel the real situation when we’re competing.
“Coaches will always provide confidence to us, so we also need to believe in ourselves and give it all we got. The rest, Allah will decide,” he said when met by Bernama today.
He said that his preparations were going according to plan and that his performance and lifts during training camp in Turkiye would allow him to go all out tomorrow.
“The training in Turkiye met all targets set by the coach. Based on that, we will carry the momentum to Glasgow to do our best,” he said, as he singled out weightlifters from India and Sri Lanka as his main challengers for tomorrow’s competition.
Mohamad Aniq won the gold medal in the men’s 55 kg in his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham in 2022 by beating Sanket Mahadev Sargar by a single kg difference.
Weightlifting, which begins tomorrow at Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Armadillo here, will last for five days.
