Dembele’s magical brace leads PSG to top of Ligue 1

Ousmane Dembele scored twice, including a stunning lob, as Paris Saint-Germain beat Lille 3-0 to climb to the Ligue 1 summit.

OUSMANE Dembele fired Paris Saint-Germain to the top of Ligue 1 with a brilliant brace in a 3-0 win over Lille.

The champions dominated at a rainy Parc des Princes on Friday to leapfrog Lens, who play on Saturday.

Dembele, last season’s Ballon d’Or winner, has endured an injury-hit campaign but returned to form with two superb goals.

He opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a sweet left-footed curler from outside the box into the bottom corner.

The French forward then produced a sumptuous second just after the hour mark, chipping goalkeeper Berke Ozer from inside the area.

“That’s the magic of Ousmane, he can do anything, he’s just brilliant,” said teammate Warren Zaire-Emery.

Dembele thought he had a third shortly after half-time but was denied by an offside flag.

Substitute Bradley Barcola clipped home a third in stoppage time after a defensive mix-up.

PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier had little to do as the hosts controlled the game.

Lille, who are fourth, created one major chance when Olivier Giroud chipped onto the bar when they were only 1-0 down.

The Parisians were without key defender Achraf Hakimi, who is preparing for Morocco’s African Cup of Nations final on Sunday.
