PPP charts new direction as BN formally recognises component party

PPP adopts ‘Senada Sejiwa’ theme to strengthen BN, focusing on grassroots issues following formal recognition by the coalition’s leadership.

KUALA LUMPUR: The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will chart a new direction under the theme ‘Senada Sejiwa’. President Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan said the focus is on strengthening Barisan Nasional (BN) by bringing grassroots issues to the forefront.

This follows the formal recognition of PPP as a component party of BN. “Under the Senada Sejiwa theme, PPP aims to give the people a stronger voice and add value to BN by raising grassroots concerns in a more structured and inclusive manner,” Loga Bala told Bernama.

He stressed that PPP has been a BN component party since 1974. Today’s development represents a confirmation of the party’s long-standing position rather than a re-entry.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made the announcement officiating PPP’s 72nd annual general assembly. He said the official recognition ceremony will take place during the BN Supreme Council meeting in Kota Kinabalu.

Ahmad Zahid confirmed PPP will be a full component party. The coalition now comprises five component parties: UMNO, MCA, MIC, PBRS, and PPP.

PPP was established in 1953 but faced a prolonged leadership crisis. It was deregistered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) in 2019 following a dispute between two former leaders.

The crisis ended when the Home Ministry approved the party’s appeal against deregistration in 2023. Loga Bala said PPP received official confirmation from ROS in 2025 affirming its continued BN membership.

The party currently has about 320,000 members nationwide. It maintains 119 divisions and 3,119 branches.
