Brunei Becomes First Export Market For All-New Proton X50

Proton has launched the all-new Proton X50 in Brunei, continuing its plan to grow sales outside Malaysia after a strong 2025.

This launch is an important step for Proton’s export business, and Brunei becomes the first overseas market to receive the new X50.

Brunei is one of Proton’s key export markets, and the X50 has been one of its best-selling models there. Last year, Proton exported 6,000 vehicles, with the X50 making up 29 per cent of total export sales. In Brunei alone, the X50 accounted for 38 per cent of Proton’s sales, showing how popular the SUV is in the country.

The launch event was held in Bandar Seri Begawan and was attended by senior representatives from Proton, PAD Motors and the Malaysian High Commission to Brunei.

Proton plans to keep growing in Brunei, with a target of 1,000 units this year. This growth will be supported by updated models like the new X50, and later, the all-new Proton Saga.

The all-new Proton X50 comes with updated styling, a better interior and more safety features. It uses a 1.5-litre turbo engine with 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. On the outside, it gets full LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels and a sporty rear spoiler. Inside, the cabin features leather-style seats and colourful ambient lighting.

Safety is a key focus, with Level 2 driver assistance, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and six airbags.

In Brunei, the Proton X50 is sold in three variants. Prices start at B$27,499 for the Executive, B$31,500 for the Premium and B$34,500 for the Flagship. The first 100 buyers receive a B$1,500 discount. All cars come with a five-year or 150,000 km warranty and six free labour services.

Proton says launching the new X50 in Brunei shows its confidence in the market and its strong partnership with PAD Motors. The company believes models like the X50 will help it reach its future export goals and grow its presence in the region.
