Dewan Rakyat to discuss trade, school entry age and road safety

Parliament’s focus includes 2025 trade performance, criteria for Year One pupil entry age, and measures to tackle rising road accidents.

KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s trade performance for 2025 and the criteria for determining the age of entry for Year One pupils are among the key topics for today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.

According to the Order Paper, Lee Chean Chung will ask the Prime Minister to state the trade performance and value for 2025 during the Minister’s Question Time.

He will also inquire about the outcome of the Prime Minister’s overseas visits and trade missions which contributed to export growth.

Datuk Zailah Mohd Yusoff will then ask the Prime Minister about the rationale and data criteria for determining if Year One students start at six or seven years old.

Her question will also cover the government’s preparedness to implement the policy and its welfare implications for students.

During the Questions for Oral Answers session, Datuk Siti Aminah Aching will ask the Transport Minister about the main cause of the increase in road accidents.

She will specifically focus on accidents involving motorcyclists and the steps taken to address the problem.

Yeo Bee Yin will ask the Home Minister about the number of individuals charged and convicted under new Penal Code subsections 424a to 424d.

These subsections are designed to combat mule accounts involved in scams.

The new Kinabatangan MP, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, will also be sworn in during today’s session.

The Dewan Rakyat will continue debating the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address delivered by Sultan Ibrahim on Jan 19.

The sitting is scheduled to take place for 20 days until March 3.
