Temporary road repairs ease Gua Musang congestion ahead of CNY

Routine maintenance on a key Gua Musang road aims to reduce festive season traffic jams as the government seeks long-term funding for the stalled project.

GUA MUSANG: Routine maintenance works are underway on a section of the Central Spine Road (LTU) to temporarily ease severe traffic congestion ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday.

Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the short-term measures, including grass cutting and pothole repairs, are being carried out by Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd along Persiaran Raya near Taman Wangi.

“We are aware of the traffic congestion in this area. For now, we will improve the road conditions before assessing the need for further funding and follow-up action,” he told reporters after inspecting the LTU Packages 3B and 3C project site.

The congestion on the Gua Musang–Kuala Lipis route frequently stretches for nearly two kilometres during festive seasons and school holidays.

For a longer-term solution, Nanta said pavement maintenance will be handled by the Public Works Department through a quotation process expected to begin in March.

He added that the previous contractor for the project was terminated after it was found an additional allocation of about RM90 million was needed to complete the works.

“We have submitted a request for additional funding to the Ministry of Economy and are awaiting a decision,” Nanta said.

He expressed hope the process could be expedited to appoint a new contractor and complete the project on schedule.
