GWM Malaysia will be launching the locally-assembled (CKD) GWM Wey G9 MPV here on Jan 29 2026. However, prior to that, the first shipment of the Wey G9 exported to Thailand has safely arrived on the shores of our northern neighbours.
No time was wasted by GWM Malaysia as the pioneering batch was loaded for shipment shortly after CKD units begun rolling off the assembly lines at the EP Manufacturing (EPMB) plant in Malacca, GWM Malaysia’s CKD partner.

“Today’s CKD shipment of the GWM Wey G9 to Thailand is a testament to the strong regional foundation we are building in Asean. Malaysia’s role as a strategic assembly hub allows us to support neighbouring markets with advanced new energy products while deepening regional supply chain integration. This shipment marks an important step forward as we accelerate our presence across the region,” stated GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer, Roslan Abdullah.
Malaysia is strongly positioned as a regional manufacturing hub for Chinese carmakers and has begun exporting CKD models to our neighbours.

“The GWM Wey G9 represents the convergence of world-class engineering and local craftsmanship. This shipment to Thailand demonstrates our growing capability to support GWM’s regional expansion. It is more than a logistical milestone, it marks the beginning of a long-term roadmap reinforcing Malaysia’s position in GWM’s new energy future,” emphasised GWM Malaysia Managing Director, Cui Anqi.
The Wey G9 was previewed locally in Sep 2025. Once launched, it will be available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) rolling on the group’s Hi4 hybrid all-wheel drive layout. Powering the drivetrain is the combination of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine linked to a dual electric motor setup.

Combined GWM quotes 442 PS and 642 Nm of torque to all four wheels. That makes it good for the century sprint in a spritely 5.7 seconds and if you keep your right planted, it will top out at 200 kph.
The electric motors are fed by a 44.2-kWh battery and can provide pure electric propulsion of up to 170 km (NEDC). Altogether, the Wey G9 is capable of up to 1,000 km (NEDC) on a single tank of petrol with a fully charged battery.

Charging numbers are up to 6.6 kW for AC charging. While it does support DC fast charging, the figures have not been confirmed for Malaysia, thought it will get the battery from 30-80% in 26 minutes.
The order books are open with an expected starting price of just under RM 300,000 when the launch happens in a few days. Stay tuned for the full details.
