Suzuki eVitara debuts with RM188,000 starting price

Naza Eastern Motors launches the Suzuki eVitara in Malaysia from RM188,000 with a 426km WLTP range, 61kWh battery and advanced safety features.

NAZA Eastern Motors has launched the Suzuki eVitara in Malaysia, priced from RM 188,000 on-the-road without insurance, fully imported (CBU) from India. The model will be introduced in limited units for Malaysia, with Naza Eastern Motors describing early customers as pioneer owners of Suzuki’s first-ever electric vehicle.

As part of the launch offer, the first 10 customers who purchase the eVitara will receive five years of complimentary charging at selected dealerships, subject to terms and conditions.

The Suzuki eVitara is underpinned by the Heartect-e platform, which has been developed specifically for electric vehicles. The platform allows the battery pack to be mounted under the floor, helping to create a lower centre of gravity while also contributing to body rigidity.

For Malaysia, the eVitara is powered by a single front motor producing 174 PS and 193 Nm. This is paired with a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a driving range of up to 426 km (WLTP).

Also not stated is the eVitara’s maximum DC charging rate. However, based on its 61 kWh battery and claimed 10-80% DC charging time of 45 minutes, the average charging power works out to roughly 60 kW. For reference, the closely related Toyota Urban Cruiser lists DC charging at up to 67 kW.

AC charging is rated at 7 kW, which takes around nine hours to get from 10 to 100% SoC.

Drivers can choose from Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, while Snow mode is also available to moderate torque delivery in slippery conditions. The eVitara also gets an easy operation pedal, which allows drivers to select different levels of deceleration when easing off the accelerator.

In terms of size, the eVitara measures 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,640 mm tall, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Minimum ground clearance is listed at 185 mm, while luggage capacity is rated at 306 litres.

The electric SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with 225/55 R18 tyres. Suspension consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, while braking is handled by ventilated discs at both ends.

On the outside, the eVitara carries Suzuki’s “High-Tech & Adventure” design theme, with the brand describing its styling inspiration as a “Metal Beast”. Exterior features include LED projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, black wheel arch extensions, a rear spoiler, glass roof with sunshade and an electromagnetic tailgate opener.

Inside, the eVitara introduces a more digital Suzuki cabin, with an integrated display system that combines a 10.25-inch meter display and a 10.1-inch centre display. It also gets a two-spoke steering wheel, floating centre console, shift-by-wire controls, wireless charger, 12V socket, USB-A and USB-C ports, ambient lighting and an Infinity premium sound system with subwoofer.

Other cabin features include fabric and synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, driver lumbar support, sliding and reclining rear seats, and a rear centre armrest with cupholders.

The rear seats use a 4:2:4 split-folding configuration and can also slide to prioritise either passenger space or cargo room.

On the safety front, the driver assistance package includes Dual Sensor Brake Support II, multiple collision braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive High Beam System, High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. A 360-degree camera system is also fitted.

Five exterior colours are available. These are Celestial Blue Pearl Metallic, Bluish Black Pearl, Land Breeze Green Pearl Metallic with Bluish Black Pearl, Splendid Silver Pearl Metallic with Bluish Black Pearl, and Grandeur Grey Pearl Metallic with Bluish Black Pearl.

The eVitara comes with a five-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, a five-year or 100,000 km warranty for electric vehicle components, and an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty.

Naza Eastern Motors says its network currently consists of 14 sales outlets and 13 service centres nationwide.
