The Works Ministry is implementing 99 slope repair projects costing RM77.3 million this year, with a focus on high-risk areas to ensure road safety and network resilience.
JELEBU: The Works Ministry is implementing 99 slope repair projects nationwide this year at a total cost of RM77.3 million.
Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said 90 of these are continuations from last year, one is a priority project for 2026, and the remainder are special-approval projects.
He stated that the government has allocated RM260 million this year for slope safety works in high-risk areas.
“The allocation will be distributed based on the critical needs of each location, particularly in areas identified as being frequently exposed to slope failure incidents,” he told reporters after officiating a project handover here.
Nanta cited natural disasters like heavy rainfall as key factors contributing to slope failures.
He emphasised the ministry’s commitment to ensuring public access and safety through high-quality federal road networks and slopes.
Separately, he detailed a completed RM109 million slope repair project along the Very High Frequency Telapak Buruk route.
This project covered 124 locations under 36 Work Orders to protect the Telapak Buruk transmission station, a Priority 1 Critical Asset.
“The transmission station provides direct benefits to the public, particularly security agencies such as the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Chief Government Security Officer,” he said.
He added that it ensures zero-disruption for network and utility services in Negeri Sembilan and parts of Selangor, Melaka and Pahang.
The project was implemented by the Public Works Department through a long-term contractor from November 2022 to October 2025.
Nanta said this contract model allowed critical repairs to be carried out more quickly and effectively than conventional procurement.
He acknowledged challenges during implementation, including adverse weather conditions and difficult site topography.
Earlier, he announced RM19.5 million for periodic pavement works in the Southern Zone covering Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
A further RM57.2 million was approved for periodic non-pavement works in the region.
