Police arrest four teenage boys, including three brothers, for stealing motorcycles in Sungai Petani.
SUNGAI PETANI: Police arrested four teenage boys, including three brothers, on suspicions of stealing motorcycles around the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) parking area near here on July 14.
Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, 14 to 16, were known as the Vetri Gang and stole parked motorcycles in the area by pushing them as if they were broken, adding that 20 cases of stolen motorcycles have been reported in the area.
“The motorcycle registration plates were not changed but used by other suspects as spare parts,” he said at a media conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters near here today.
All suspects had no prior criminal records and the head of the gang, 15, did not attend school, and they have been remanded till tomorrow for investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code, he added.
Also, Hanyan said that four men, 25 to 31, were arrested in Sidam Kiri and Padang Serai on July 14 for suspected involvement in housebreaking and stealing motorcycles, and a kerambit, a fake pistol, nine ball bearings, 0.56 grams of methamphetamine as well as two Yamaha RXZ and various components were seized.
The suspects, who have prior criminal and drug records, are being investigated under Section 457 and 379A of the Penal Code, he added.
In a separate development, he said that a series of snatch theft cases have been solved with the arrest of a man, 24, in Jalan Tupah, Merbok, recently.
The suspect, who has 14 prior criminal and drug records, was suspected of being involved in another 10 snatch thefts in the district, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code.
Police are tracking down another two male suspects believed to be accomplices, he added.
