Selangor FC advance to the ASEAN Club Championship semi-finals after a 1-1 draw with BG Pathum United, finishing second in Group A behind Buriram United
SELANGOR FC secured their place in the 2025/2026 ASEAN Club Championship semi-finals despite a 1-1 draw with Thailand’s BG Pathum United.
The Red Giants finished second in Group A with nine points, level with group winners Buriram United but behind on goal difference.
The match at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium saw Selangor reduced to ten men in the 26th minute after Alvin Fortes received a red card.
Captain Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim then fired the home side ahead in the 36th minute with a powerful shot from inside the box.
BG Pathum United equalised in the 64th minute when a cross from Waris Choolthong was turned into his own net by defender Richmond Ankrah.
Selangor goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi later made a brilliant save to deny Ikhsan Fandi Ahmad’s powerful header.
The draw eliminated BG Pathum United, who finished third in the group with eight points.
In the other Group A match, Buriram United thrashed Dynamic Herb Cebu 6-0 to finish as group champions.
The semi-finals will be played over two legs starting in May, with Selangor facing the Group B winners.
Buriram United will meet the Group B runners-up in the last four.
Vietnam’s Nam Dinh currently lead Group B with 12 points ahead of their final match against Johor Darul Ta’zim tonight.
