A decades-long land dispute between Felda and the Terengganu state government is close to being settled following productive negotiations, says Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi

KUALA NERUS: A long-standing dispute over commercial plantation land between the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and the Terengganu State Government is finally nearing a resolution.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that productive discussions have paved the way for a settlement.

“God willing, it will be resolved in the very near future,” he stated after officiating a ministry event.

The conflict, which has spanned decades, intensified when the state government issued trespassing notices covering 10 plantations totalling roughly 15,000 hectares.

The state had alleged that Felda operated on this land for over 40 years without paying land premiums, taxes, or sharing profits.

Notices were served to plantation managements across several districts including Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun, and Hulu Terengganu.

The tone has now shifted from confrontation to cooperation. Following positive developments in the negotiations, the Terengganu State Government has extended the remedy period for Felda.

This extension allows both parties the space needed to finalise a fair and lasting agreement.

The discussions involved the Terengganu State Secretary and the Felda Control Division.
