Social media platform X experienced widespread outages before service was restored globally on Monday afternoon.

PARIS: Social media platform X experienced widespread international outages on Monday afternoon before service was restored globally.

The platform failed to show posts to users in many countries for approximately two hours. Service appeared to return to normal around 1530 GMT, according to tracking website Down Detector.

Connectivity monitor Netblocks described the incident as “international outages” in a post on Mastodon. The organisation stated the breakdown was “not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering”.

AFP journalists in countries including France and Thailand confirmed they were unable to access X during the disruption. Spokespeople for X did not respond to a request for comment on the outage.

Netblocks had reported similar outages for the platform on February 9 and February 1. The platform, formerly known as Twitter, was purchased by Elon Musk in 2022.

Musk has since merged it with his xAI company, which develops the Grok chatbot. xAI is set to be absorbed by Musk’s rocket firm SpaceX, with the merged entity expected to go public as early as this summer.
