Tourism Malaysia uses mascots Wira and Manja to promote ecotourism, inviting visitors to see the endangered Malayan Sun Bear at conservation centres nationwide.
PUTRAJAYA: Visitors are being invited to explore the natural habitats of the endangered Malayan Sun Bear, symbolised by the official Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) mascots, Wira and Manja.
Tourism Malaysia said the mascots symbolise the nation’s commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism.
“Designed in a friendly and engaging animated form, Wira and Manja are crafted to appeal to visitors of all ages, evoking a sense of warmth and cheerfulness,” it said in a statement.
This approach aims to enhance Malaysia’s global image as a welcoming and vibrant tourism destination.
Tourists can encounter the Malayan Sun Bear at key locations including the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre in Sandakan, Sabah.
Other sites include Lok Kawi Wildlife Park in Sabah and the Matang Wildlife Centre in Sarawak.
Numerous zoos and parks across Peninsular Malaysia also house the species.
These include Zoo Taiping and Night Safari in Perak, Zoo Negara in Kuala Lumpur, and Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Park in Selangor.
“Through this campaign, Malaysia invites travellers to experience its unique wildlife and support conservation efforts,” the statement added.
These nature-based encounters are designed to showcase the country’s rich biodiversity and ecotourism offerings.
The Malayan Sun Bear was chosen as the official VM2026 icon to highlight Malaysia’s commitment to protecting endangered species.
