Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says police welfare must be prioritised, echoing PM Anwar’s concerns, as officers face risks and sacrifice family time.

KUALA LUMPUR: The welfare of Royal Malaysia Police personnel must remain a priority, aligning with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s concerns.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail stressed that the sacrifices and risks faced by security forces deserve recognition and support.

“PDRM is very important in our country. Don’t take things for granted what the PDRM does,” she said at a donation ceremony here.

She added that the force often works under pressure and sacrifices family time to maintain public order.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is the Prime Minister’s wife and Bandar Tun Razak MP, spoke at the Yayasan Seri Negara and Zakat Wakalah PBLT Sdn Bhd event.

She stated that assistance channelled through zakat helps ease the financial burden of personnel.

This aid supports daily expenses, children’s education, and basic family needs amid a challenging cost of living.

She also highlighted the broader social importance of zakat, especially during Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said 200 PDRM asnaf received aid at the ceremony.

The recipients comprised 100 from Bukit Aman, with the rest from the Kuala Lumpur and Cheras police headquarters.

Each received cash and a food basket, with three also getting wheelchairs.

Mohd Khalid expressed gratitude to Yayasan Seri Negara and PBLT Sdn Bhd for their commitment.

He noted their collaboration on welfare and social development programmes has lasted over three years.

“This collaboration proves that the strategic collaboration model between non-governmental organisations, the private sector and law enforcement agencies can benefit society,” he said.
